Coming seventh in their first season, they were promoted a year later after finishing runners-up. They are now in their third campaign in China League One – the second division – finishing fifth in 2009 but a disappointing 11th last term.
The club play their home matches at the Guangdong Provisional People’s Stadium in Guangzhou which holds 27,090 spectators. Coached by Cao Yang, Sunray Cave’s squad is mostly a homegrown one but they do have three overseas imports in the shape of Cameroon midfielder Mahama Awal, Colombian striker Ricardo Steer and Costa Rican international defender Dario Delgado.
